Active Holiday Ideas While Sailing in Croatia

Active Holiday Ideas While Sailing in Croatia

24.07.2019.

So, you are coming sailing in Croatia and are wondering what other activities you can do while you are here? If the thought of lying around in the sun all day makes you twitch, don’t worry, there are also plenty of active activities you can do while sailing in Croatia.

There are numerous hiking and biking trails on every island, either take yourself off exploring, or book a guide to show you some of the best tracks, views and also tell you a little of the history. Even exploring some of the sites of Croatia will give you a decent workout – like hiking up to St. Michael’s Fortress in Šibenik, hiking to the Blaca Monastery on island Brač, walking the walls of Dubrovnik and so much more.

For those who want a little more speed, there are quad bike rentals and tours available in various locations, which gives a good opportunity to see the islands from a different perspective – off-road!

There are kayaking tours around most destinations, Split, Hvar, Korčula and Dubrovnik being the most popular. Of course, you can also opt to have a kayak or SUP aboard your yacht as an added extra, so whenever you feel inspired, you can take to the water and explore.

Most yachts also have basic snorkelling equipment aboard, and while Croatia has no great barrier reef, there is plenty of marine flora and fauna to discover. For those who have their diving certificates, you can also go scuba diving at any licensed dive centre along the coast. Croatia has numerous shipwrecks and the likes, which makes for a great dive, just know that the majority of wrecks are beyond 40 m, so you will need to be deep-sea certified (and bring your license along).

Croatia is also a perfect destination for rock climbing and deep-water soloing. Sailing in Croatia takes you past many fantastic climbs – many of which are only accessible by boat! Of course, you will need appropriate equipment and experience for this activity. However, for those who want to try their hand at something new, local and experienced guides are also available to book – expect spectacular views, but not for the fainthearted.

For something really unique, if your sailing itinerary can take you to Omiš, even for half a day, you can go rafting on the lush Cetina river, canyoning or zip-lining.

Kite surfing and wind-surfing are also available in many areas; Brač and the Pelješac Peninsula in particular get strong winds funneling through the channels which have made them well-known areas for wind and kite surfing. Again, if you don't have experience, there are also lessons available here, ranging from one hour to half-day lessons.

The beauty of sailing in Croatia is that it has something for everyone, relax on the deck, soaking in the sun, then get off and explore this gorgeous country in a number of ways. Chill out, or do it all – this is why Croatia is the perfect sailing destination, and we’re happy to help curate the perfect holiday for you.

Live. Love. Sail.
