Cyclades

The Cyclades are easily the most famous island group in the Aegean Sea; they form the Aegean archipelago, are comprised of more than 200 islands and islets, and lie SE of the mainland. Cyclades translates as circle, as the archipelago consists of the islands encircling the famous island Delos, considered to be the birthplace of Apollo. When you picture Greece, images of white stucco houses with cobalt blue shutters, framed by bursts of purple Bougainvillea come to mind, all set against the piercing blue of the Aegean – this is the Cyclades! The iconic islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Ios, Paros, Delos and Naxos are easily the showstoppers but every island holds its authentic charm, culture, history and cuisine; a sailor’s paradise indeed.

Lavrion Main Port

The beauty of Lavrion is its location, on the SE tip of the Attica Peninsula, it is only 30 km from the Athens international airport, to the SW lies the Argo-Saronic Gulf and immediately to its SE lies the Cyclades, making it a perfect starting port for a Greece sailing adventure.

Lavrion is a large commercial fishing harbor and was known for its industrial mining, but the town has seen a dramatic transformation in recent years and is now a destination in itself. Within the harbor on the town quay, there are berths available; however, note that many are reserved for permanent charter fleets and late-night discos and bars can make it noisy in the evenings. Changeover days are Fridays and Saturdays for most yachts, so outside of this, more berths should be available. Mooring lines are available. Electricity and water columns are present but not always in working order or available. Warning: The town quay is vulnerable to swells during strong southerly winds. Payment for a berth should go to the Harbor Authority only.

Berth Characteristics • 70 berths for up to 40m length and 6m draught.

Radio Channel • You can reach Lavrion Port by calling VHF12.
